Weather policy:
The
coaches on deck make the determination if practice can be safely held. The
general rules of thumb for weather related practice cancellations are:
Thunder and lightning will cause the pool to be closed for at least 1/2 hour
(thunder) and 1 hour
(lightning); Rain
that is heavy enough to prevent the coaches from seeing the bottom of the pool will cause the pool to be closed until conditions improve;
Light
rain will not normally cause practice cancellation. The opening
and closing of the pools is at the discretion of the lifeguards on
duty, NOT the Burke Centre Swim Club. In general, it is our
objective to get as much practice/training for your children as we
safely can. When afternoon storms are rolling through the area, the
coaching staff will be at the pool. During the periods of time when
the lifeguards have opened the pool and determined that it is safe
to swim, we will hold practice. This means that some age groups may
get to practice, and others may not, based on weather
conditions at the time. We understand that this
may make drop-off and pick-up challenging. Rest assured, even if your
child’s in-water training session is cut short, they will be under
the supervision of the coaching staff until you arrive.
We will make every attempt to
notify you on this website and/or by e-mail, as soon as possible,
should things be postponed/cancelled.
If
things look questionable,
please be sure to check this website & your e-mail
before coming to the pool. Do keep in mind, however, that weather
conditions may change rapidly. It is not always possible to get
word out that things have changed. If you are unsure about the status of the pool, call
the pool to check if the pool is open before
coming.
