Burke Centre Penguins

This year, registration for the Burke Centre Swim Club (both Penguins and Stingers) will be done online. Please read the information below before proceeding with your online registration.

Online registration is currently open. Early bird registration continues until April 30, 2010. The cost for early bird registration is $115 per swimmer for the first two swimmers and $90 for each additional swimmer. Registrations completed after April 30, 2010 will be automatically charged an additional $50 fee. If a swimmer withdraws from the team for a reason not related to the swimmer evaluation, you will receive the registration fee minus a $10 non-refundable processing fee.

All new swimmers (including siblings that have not previously participated on the team) will be required to pass a swim evaluation. The evaluations will be held Tuesday, June 1, 2010 from 4-7pm at the Commons Pool. Swimmers will be evaluated to ensure that they meet the Red Cross Level III performance criteria, which requires swimmers to swim 15 yards (front and back) and float and tread water for 30 seconds. Swimmers do not need to know all competitive strokes. If your child does not pass the evaluation, you will receive a full refund of registration fees.

Families who have not swum for either team will be assigned to either the Penguins or Stingers team. Efforts will be made to honor requests, but preferences are NOT guaranteed. Families will be notified of their team assignment prior to the parents meetings in May. For more information about the Stingers and Penguins teams, please go to www.burkeswimclub.org

Please note: if your swimmer has swum competitively in the past, you will be asked to provide the swimmer’s best times as part of the online registration. Please have that information available before beginning the online registration process.

Please welcome new Penguin Head Coach David Horak to our team! Local to our community, Dave is a FCPS teacher and coaches with the Potomac Marlins Swim Team. Dave swam in college for the Notre Dame Varsity Swim team and broke several school records! He is excited to begin meeting the Penguins families and can't wait for the season to start!

REMINDER: In order to participate on the Burke Centre Swim Team, you must be a member of the Burke Centre pools. Pool applications can be found at links below. There is an early bird discount for pool memberships, too. We're looking forward to a great season.
