Upcoming Events:

Online registration for the 2012 Penguins summer season will open on March 15.  We are doing registration differently this year, with priority registration for returning swim team families running from March 15 - March 31.  So, please mark your calendars and register early.   More information on registration will be e-mailed to returning families and posted on the this website in late February. Get ready for the upcoming summer swim season!  Register for the Burke Racquet & Swim Club Spring Tune Up; ten Sunday sessions beginning in March and continuing to the start of the summer swim session.  You can also register for swim classes through Fairfax County Parktakes to help improve your stroke technique and get you ready to start the summer season.

 Just because the pools are closed doesn't mean Penguin families can't continue to help our community.

 3rd Annual Valentine Blood Drive
 Sunday, February 12, 2012 - 9 am to 4:30pm at the Woods Community Center, Burke, VA
Donations accepted from those age 16 & older.  Donors who are 16 need Parent Consent Form.  All blood types are needed. Since many recipients of blood products are children battling cancer, this event will include a bake sale to benefit Journey 4 A Cure, an organization dedicated to raising funds for childhood cancer research and providing direct support to families with a child in treatment.  Visit www.friendsofsadie.org for details & to sign up or go to INOVA Blood Donor Services to schedule an appointment online or contact Inova Blood Donor Services at 1-866-BLOODSAVES (1-866-256-6372), sponsor code 7637.  Childcare will be available during your appointment, and we need volunteers!  For more information or to volunteer, please contact Mary Mulvenon.

 Online registration for next summer will open in early April 2012.  Register before the end of April and avoid late fees!

Did you know that all our coaches & coach interns are lifeguard AND CPR certified?  Certification classes are offered year-round through the RECenters & other local facilities. Certification types differ so check HERE to see which certification types are acceptable.  Many BCSC coaches choose to take certification classes locally at the  Burke Racquet & Swim Club.   Burke Racquet offers a full lifeguard/CPR certification class in the spring (generally early-May just before the start of the season) as well as "challenge" opportunities; which, if passed, extend your certification without requiring you to attend the full class.  Contact Kim Spina for additional information about classes.  NOTE:  American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard certifications are good for 3 years; & beginning in 2011, ARC CPR certifications are good for 2 years!
