Available below is the 2008 swim team application for the upcoming spring season. Please be sure to fill out both pages of the application. Stated fees apply to registrations postmarked on or before April 30, 2008. Registrations postmarked after that date must include a $50 late fee in addition to the registration cost. After April 30, 2008, team emails will only be sent to those registered for the upcoming 2008 swim season. If you intend to swim this summer, and want to continue getting team emails, register now.

Despite being overcast, the BCSC Earth Day clean-up event scheduled for today, Sunday, April 27th, is ON from 12:00pm-2:30pm. Please meet at the Landings Pool parking,
sign in (so we have record of the number of participants), and pick up a garbage
bag. You will then be sent to a clean-up location. If you are in need of
community service hours for school – be sure to bring the necessary form to be signed. They should wear closed toe shoes and bring work gloves; dress according to the weather. event will be rescheduled for another time.

Parents are encouraged to attend the Penguin parent meeting on Monday, May 19 @ the Commons CC @ 7:00pm. Practices begin on Wednesday, May 28th after-school. Specific age-group practice times will be posted on the Penguin website when determined. This year, every family must help in at least two areas. Volunteer sign-up sheets will be available at the parent meeting. Contact April Dougherty (Penguin volunteer coordinator) with questions or to volunteer to help.

Swimmers new to the Burke Centre Swim Club (BCSC), including any siblings that have not participated before, must attend the new swimmer Evaluation Day on Tuesday, May 27th @ the Commons pool between 4:00pm-7:00pm [you can come any time during that 3-hr window] to be evaluated. To participate on the swim team, the BCSC requires that swimmers meet the Red Cross Level III performance criteria which require swimmers to swim 15 yds (front & back) and float & tread water for 30 seconds. Swimmers do not need to know all competitive strokes. Contact Cindy Ogren (Penguin President) with questions regarding evaluations.

Practices begin on Wednesday, May 28th after-school. Specific age-group practice times will be posted on the Penguin website when determined.

Lastly, for those interested in training to be a Colonial Swim League (CSL) Official (stroke & turn judge, referee, and/or starter) or computer entry person (Hy-Tek software) the CSL offers training sessions. Officials must attend a training session. Official’s certification remains valid for two years (from the date of certification). Computer training is not mandatory, but advised.
